Elaine Gebert Photography bio picture

Welcome to my Blog!

Autobiographies are tough because I never know what to say about myself or how I can even sum myself up in a few words!

There are the obvious things such as, I'm a photographer, and also a lady. And I can list things I love as so: Weddings, babies, commitment, sunshine, sweaters, shoes, music, movies, reading, cuddles, comics etc etc..

But in a photography bio, I suppose I'm supposed to talk about why I love photography. But it's hard for me to describe it. How can I explain how much I love shooting weddings and capturing young love, or how photographing children makes me feel like a kid again, or even how I'd do a photo shoot every single day if i could without it sounding hokey?

Basically, I'd love to be a part of your special day, whether it be a beautiful wedding, your family spending time together, or just you and I making some awesome images!

The Only Way

Last summer I collaborated with a fantastic Vancouver band, Sister Says, to create some images for their first album. We rented a studio and in the end came out with some really cool, classic photos! The image below is the cover of their first studio recorded album, which is fantastic, and was officially released this month! They are two incredibly talented and wonderful people, so you should definitely check them out!

You can buy or download the album here: CD Baby
And you can check out their facebook page here: Sister Says Facebook Page to find out about upcoming shows!

Kinga in the blueberry fields! – Vancouver Portrait Photography

There are 2 things I LOVE that I would like to tell you about today!

Item the first:
I spend a lot of time in Port Coquitlam, since Dylan lives out there, and one of my favourite things about PoCo is when you get to the very edge of town and it turns into farms and fields instead of city. A lot of these farms are blueberry fields, at least the ones nearby Dylan’s place. I LOVE the blueberry fields, for what reason I can’t really explain. It’s sort of a weird thing to be in love with, but seriously, ever since I saw them first, i’ve fallen in love! I suppose it’s how they are in nice neat rows that seem to go forever, and how the branches are all scraggly, and how in the winter most of the branches turn bright red in the right light. It’s kind of magical.

Item the second:
KINGA. I love this girl. Not only is she beeautiful, she’s a blast to shoot with. She is pretty much my go-to-girl for models. We met maybe 2 years ago, we did a little photo shoot for an assignment I had for school, all film, it was raining, she looked fabulous with her button print umbrella, and it was FUN! Ever since then we shoot together every couple months it seems. She understands me and my photography, which is fantastic. She knows what I like and she delivers! I can say, “Hey Kinga, can you laugh for me?” and she gives me the most authentic, cute laugh that results in that amazing smile she has.
But I should stop there before I start sounding like a creep listing the reasons why I love this girl so much =p

How do these two things relate? I told Kinga about these blueberry fields, and how I would love to shoot in them, but that they were technically private property. I asked her what she thought, and reason #1001 why I love this girl, she said, “I’m always down for an adventure, especially if it includes being ninja-esque”. Yes. So we were super stealth (actually not really, we just walked in) and super respectful of the beautiful blueberry bushes. And all that resulted in these fabulous photos! :

We also took some photos at a pretty little road a few minutes away, but those are for another day!

There’s a lot of happy people around these days!

At first, I wasn’t entirely convinced on this whole olympic thing. I wasn’t against the olympics per se (let’s not get into it =p ) but I wasn’t exactly thrilled either.

When I was sitting in Dylan’s (my boyfriend) living room, waiting for the opening ceremonies to start, I really didn’t know what to expect, but by the end I was stunned. They were amazing! And at that point I was hooked. I’ve been watching all the events I can (and i’m not a sports person) cheering on our Canadian athletes. It’s sooo entertaining!!

But the sports are actually not my favourite part about the olympics. I’ve been downtown a couple times since the games started, and WOW. It is jam packed with people, Vancouverites, Canadians, Americans, and people from all over the world! It’s awesome. Everyone is smiling, and checking out the sights and the events. I normally don’t enjoy crowds of people, but the energy is incredible downtown. I love it.

Here’s a photo of the cauldron I somehow managed to get on Saturday (the gap in the fence is WAY to high…i couldn’t look through my viewfinder!!)

Candice & Joe – You & Me Session- Vancouver Portrait Photography

When Candice and I starting planning our portrait session, she mentioned that her boyfriend, Joe, would be more than happy to help out by carrying around props and anything else that was needed. Of course I said that would be fantastic! but secretly….I was hoping to trick him into being in some of the photos with Candice! (Sneaky, i know)

Well, Joe turned out to be a natural in front of the camera, and I think the photos turned out ADORABLE. And we had so much fun with the balloons! =)

There were so many that i LOVED, it was really hard to choose which ones blog!

Candice Portraits – Vancouver Portrait Photography

I met Candice on the set of the short film Catechism (she’s a fantastic actress) which I was taking production stills for a couple of years ago. Later on I asked her to model for a shoot a classmate and I had planned for at Hycroft Manor, which was an awesome shoot, but at that point, I still had a lot to learn technically, and was still finding my own style. So I was definitely excited to shoot with her again, in my style and with all of the knowledge I’ve gained since then!

We both decided that we were feeling a vintage style for the session, I brought the props, and left the clothing completely up to Candice. On the morning of the session, she pulls out a huge suitcase full of vintage inspired clothing! This girl definitely has style! So with the help of Candice’s boyfriend carrying props (I have photos of the two of them to show you later on!) we had this awesome shoot!

The forecast predicted rain for the day, but it held off literally until the moment we got back to the car! I think the light turned out beautifully, even without sunshine!
