It’s interesting looking back through my catalogue of photos and seeing how much I’ve grown not only technically in my photography, but also how my style has refined. Every time I take photographs I always think about what I could possibly do better (and of course there is always room for improvement!), so sometimes it’s hard to remember that I have made improvements, my style has evolved, and more than anything I’ve grown as a photographer, a business woman, and a person.
Looking back to just a year ago, I knew I had tons to learn…I gathered up as much knowledge as I possibly could, and as time went on most things just became natural. It’s easy to forget how far I’ve actually come. A lot of that is thanks to hard work & dedication, but it’s also hugely thanks to the wonderful people I spent hours with shooting everyday, inspiring each other, encouraging each other…And more than anything, learning from inspiring professionals who’s words I still think of today, and who encouraged me to grow both technically and artistically (thanks Jim & Mau from the bottom of my heart!)
Honestly, the best thing you can have as an artist is people around you that inspire you, encourage you, and push you to grow.
The reason I wrote this is because I was going through some old photo shoots yesterday, and this one in particular stood out to me. It’s always been a favourite, so I thought i’d take another look to see if there were any photos I didn’t choose a year ago that should have been chosen. I came across these, and started editing them. That’s when I realized my editing has improved a lot since then. I also thought it was interesting because a year ago, I would have completely passed over the two photos in the diptych (which clearly I did!) whereas if I had shot this now, I probably would have picked them right away! Just goes to show how style evolves!

On another note, isn’t Sharlene stunning? That hair!! This is her FIRST time modeling for anything ever. My girls are always so beautiful! <3
